Gardena Garden Hose: Classic, Comfort FLEX or Liano, Which One to Choose?

A good garden hose comes down to three criteria: its construction, its diameter and its length. Classic is Gardena's basic hose: UV and frost resistant, phthalate-free, made in Europe and covered by a 12-year commercial warranty. It comes as a 13 mm kit with a hanger, the Classic 20 m with wall hose hanger and accessories (399 DH), and in the large 19 mm diameter: Classic 19 mm 20 m (499 DH) and Classic 19 mm 50 m (1,099 DH). Its structure makes it both shape-stable and flexible: it unrolls without collapsing on itself.

Comfort FLEX: supple, reinforced, kink-free

Comfort FLEX adds a spiral knitted reinforcement in the wall and a Power Grip outer profile that keeps connectors firmly in place. The result: a hose that does not knot when you pull it, a 25 bar burst pressure and a 20-year manufacturer warranty. Choose from the Comfort FLEX 15 mm 20 m with accessories (619 DH), supplied with a spray lance, tap connector, adapter, quick connector and Aquastop connector, the Comfort FLEX 19 mm 25 m (659 DH) or the Comfort FLEX 19 mm 50 m (1,229 DH).

Liano: the light, compact textile hose

Liano hoses combine an inner PVC tube with an outer textile jacket. Gardena says they are up to 50% lighter than a standard PVC hose, and they pack down into a small volume. The Liano Life 20 m (639 DH) and Liano Life 30 m (869 DH) kits are 13 mm, supplied with pre-fitted connectors and a lance, with a 15-year warranty after registration. The top-of-the-range Liano Xtreme 19 mm 30 m (1,399 DH) reaches a 35 bar burst pressure, has a non-slip surface and a 30-year warranty after registration within 3 months.

13, 15 or 19 mm diameter: which one to choose?

• 13 mm (1/2″): the standard garden size, light and compatible with the vast majority of accessories. Ideal for a lance or spray gun, a courtyard, a terrace or a small garden.
• 15 mm (5/8″): an intermediate diameter, easier to handle than a 19 mm of the same length, that comfortably feeds a lance or a garden sprinkler.
• 19 mm (3/4″): it carries noticeably more water than a 13 mm. Best for a thirsty sprinkler, an impulse sprinkler, filling a pond or long lengths.

The longer and narrower a hose, the lower the flow at the far end. Beyond 25 to 30 m, 19 mm is therefore the safest choice. Note: connectors must match the hose diameter (13 and 15 mm on one side, 19 mm on the other).

20 m, 30 m or 50 m garden hose: which length?

Measure the distance from the tap to the furthest point you need to water, following the real path (around the house, along paths and beds), then add a few metres of margin.

• 20 m: courtyard, terrace, town garden. Easy to carry and store.
• 25 to 30 m: family garden, around the house. The Comfort FLEX 25 m and the 30 m Liano hoses are made for this.
• 50 m: large plot, orchard, villa. A single-length hose avoids intermediate joints, each of which is a potential leak point.

Do not buy longer than you need: an oversized hose is heavier, harder to store and reduces flow.

On a balcony, the 10 m spiral hose with accessories (699 DH) stretches as you walk towards your pots and retracts by itself when you let go. Hose care: sun, frost and draining

• Sun: even a UV-resistant hose ages better in the shade. After watering, wind it onto its holder rather than leaving it in full sun. Water left in an exposed hose can get very hot: let it run for a few seconds before watering plants.
• Frost: in cold regions (Middle Atlas, Ifrane, Midelt, the higher Rif), drain the hose and store it under cover in winter, even if it is described as frost resistant. Protect the outdoor tap too.
• Draining and pressure: when you finish, close the tap and then open the lance to release the pressure. Do not leave the hose under pressure for hours.
• Kinks and impacts: unroll the hose before turning on the water, avoid driving over it and keep it away from sharp edges.
