With drought and water restrictions affecting many regions of Morocco, watering your garden properly has become essential: watering just as much as needed, at the right time, with the right equipment. Whether you have a small lawn in Tangier, a villa garden in Marrakech or a vegetable patch in Driouch, this Brico MIM guide explains how to choose your garden hose and sprinkler, and how to switch to automatic watering.

Choosing the right garden hose
Two criteria matter above all: diameter and length.
| Diameter | Use |
|---|---|
| 13 mm (1/2") | Balcony, terrace, small garden, short length |
| 15 mm (5/8") | Medium garden, good balance between flow and handling |
| 19 mm (3/4") | Large garden, long lengths, powerful sprinklers |
The longer the hose, the lower the flow: beyond 25 m, choose a 19 mm diameter. Pick a length that reaches the point furthest from the tap, plus a few metres to spare.
Quality makes the difference: a cheap hose kinks, cracks in the sun and soon leaks. Gardena hoses are designed to resist UV and not to kink:
- Classic 20 m hose with wall hose holder and accessories: the complete starter kit.
- Comfort FLEX hose 15 mm, 20 m: flexible and kink-resistant.
- Comfort FLEX hose 19 mm, 50 m: for large gardens.
- Liano Xtreme hose 19 mm, 30 m: textile, lightweight and very tough.
- 10 m spiral hose: ideal for balconies and terraces.
Which sprinkler for which area?
| Sprinkler type | Watering pattern | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| Oscillating | Rectangle | Rectangular lawns |
| Circular | Circle or sector | Small and medium gardens, flower beds |
| Rotating | Large circle | Large lawns |
| Impulse (cannon) | Very long range | Very large areas, plots of land |
Our Gardena sprinklers: AquaZoom compact oscillating, AquaZoom L oscillating, Aqua M oscillating, Vario Comfort circular on spike, Comfort Samba rotating, Foxtrott Classic rotating and Comfort impulse sprinkler. To water over flower beds, place your sprinkler on a sprinkler tripod.
Automatic watering: save time and water
Automatic watering waters at the right times, even when you are away, and avoids the waste caused by forgetting.
- For potted plants and balconies: Gardena's solar-powered AquaBloom waters up to 20 plants, powered by solar energy with no electrical connection.
- For several zones from a single tap: a 2-way or 4-way water distributor splits the water between lawn, vegetable patch and flower beds.
- For a garden supplied by a well or a tank: pair your setup with one of our suitable pumps.
Drip irrigation: for fruit trees, hedges and the vegetable patch, drip irrigation delivers water directly to the base of the plants. It is the most water-efficient method and very well suited to the Moroccan climate.
8 tips to save water in the garden
- Water early in the morning or in the evening: in the middle of the day, much of the water evaporates.
- Water less often but more deeply, to encourage roots to grow downwards.
- Mulch the soil (straw, bark, leaves) to retain moisture.
- Choose plants suited to a dry climate.
- Adjust the sprinkler range so you do not water walls and paths.
- Use a spray gun with a shut-off so you do not leave the hose running.
- Check the connectors: a small leak wastes a lot of water over a season.
- Leave the lawn a little longer in summer: it copes better with the heat. Discover our lawn care range.
