A shop in Casablanca, a café in Marrakech, an agency in Rabat, a medical practice in Fez or a business in Nador and Driouch: when you need to cool premises open to the public, a cassette air conditioner is often the best option. Recessed into the false ceiling, this ceiling AC for commercial spaces spreads air in every direction without taking up wall space. In this guide, Brico MIM explains the benefits of a cassette air conditioner in Morocco, how to choose the capacity for your business, which Carrier cassette to pick and how installation works.

What is a cassette air conditioner?
A cassette air conditioner is a split system (an indoor unit and an outdoor unit) whose indoor unit is recessed into the false ceiling. Only the front panel remains visible, with an intake grille in the centre and louvres on the sides that blow air all around the unit. The outdoor unit, which houses the compressor, is installed outside: terrace, roof or plant area.
It is the classic setup for offices, shops, meeting rooms, waiting rooms and open spaces, wherever you want even air distribution in a large open volume.
Benefits and limits for a shop, café or office
The benefits
- Even air distribution: placed in the centre of the room, the cassette blows in several directions and avoids a freezing corner on one side and a lukewarm zone on the other.
- Free walls: display windows, shelving, counter, menus, screens or decoration stay where they are.
- Discreet: the front panel blends into the false ceiling grid, so the shop keeps a neat look.
- Out of reach: high up, the unit is neither bumped nor handled by customers.
- A wide range of capacities: from 12 000 to 60 000 BTU at Carrier, for a small agency as well as a large hall.
The limits to be aware of
- A false ceiling is required, with enough height above it to house the unit.
- Condensate drainage must be planned from the ceiling.
- One zone only per cassette: for a very long or partitioned space, several units are sometimes needed.
- Professional installation: ceiling mounting, refrigerant piping and commissioning by a refrigeration technician.
- Maintenance at height: you need a stepladder to reach the filters.
Cassette, wall-mounted, floor-standing, console or ducted?
| Type | Indoor unit location | False ceiling | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cassette | Recessed in the ceiling, blows all around | Yes | Shop, café, open space, waiting room |
| Wall-mounted | High on a wall | No | Small office, modest-sized premises |
| Floor-standing | On the floor, upright | No | Large halls, reception areas |
| Console | On the floor or low on a wall | No | Large bay windows, sloped ceilings |
| Ducted | Hidden in the false ceiling, air distributed through ducts | Yes | Several rooms, no visible unit |

What cassette air conditioner capacity for your premises?
In commercial premises, floor area alone is not enough. You also need to take into account:
- the number of people present at peak times (customers, staff);
- heat-generating equipment: coffee machine, oven, hobs, refrigerated display cases, computers, lighting;
- display windows exposed to the sun and the orientation of the frontage;
- an entrance door that is often open;
- ceiling height and insulation, especially on the top floor;
- the city's climate: premises in Marrakech or Fez need more than in Tangier or Agadir.
Here are some indicative guidelines to start the discussion, to be confirmed by an assessment of your premises:
| Example premises | Capacity guideline |
|---|---|
| Small office or agency of 20 to 30 m² | 12 000 to 18 000 BTU cassette |
| Shop of 40 to 60 m² with display window | 24 000 to 36 000 BTU cassette |
| Café or snack bar of 60 to 100 m², heavy footfall, machines | 36 000 to 60 000 BTU, often as two cassettes |
| Large floor, reception hall | Several cassettes or floor-standing unit, after assessment |
In large premises, two well-placed cassettes are often better than a single large unit: air is better distributed and, in case of breakdown, the premises are not left without AC in the middle of summer. For general guidelines by floor area, see our guide Which capacity (BTU) to choose.
Brico MIM tip: in a café or restaurant, don't place the cassette directly above the coffee machine or cooking area: greasy vapours quickly clog the filters. Choose the centre of the customer area instead, and tell us about your heat-generating equipment for the capacity calculation.
Carrier cassettes at Brico MIM
Brico MIM offers two ranges of Carrier cassettes, all mono-split and sold on quotation, because the price depends on availability and configuration:
| Range | Technology | Capacities | Who is it for? | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carrier Inverter R32 cassette | Inverter, R32 refrigerant, 360° airflow | 12 000 to 60 000 BTU | Premises open all day, intensive use | On quotation |
| Carrier On/Off cassette | On/Off | 12 000 to 60 000 BTU | More occasional use, lower purchase budget | On quotation |
A few references: Carrier Inverter R32 18 000 BTU cassette, 24 000 BTU, 36 000 BTU and 48 000 BTU; in On/Off, the Carrier On/Off 24 000 BTU cassette or the 36 000 BTU. For a café or shop open twelve hours a day in summer, Inverter is generally the most logical choice: stable temperature and lower consumption over long periods. Without a false ceiling, look at the Carrier Inverter R32 floor-standing unit or the Carrier Inverter R32 console. The full offer is in the air conditioners collection.
Installing a cassette: what to plan for
- The false ceiling: enough clearance above the slab and a cut-out of the right size, to be coordinated with the plasterer before finishing.
- Mounting: the unit is suspended from the ceiling structure (threaded rods anchored in the slab), not resting on the panels.
- Condensate: a drain with a proper slope to an outlet, or a condensate pump if a slope is not possible.
- The outdoor unit: a ventilated, accessible location (terrace, roof), in line with the building's rules; check with the building management if necessary.
- The refrigerant piping between the two units, as short and clean as possible.
- Electrical supply: a dedicated, protected circuit at the panel, sized according to the unit's power.
- Commissioning by an equipped refrigeration technician: on R32 models, charging and any work on the refrigerant circuit must never be done yourself.
Note: the purchase includes the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the manufacturer's documentation. Refrigerant piping, brackets, installation accessories as well as installation and commissioning are priced on quotation according to your premises.
Maintaining a cassette in professional use
In a shop, the AC runs longer and the air is dirtier (dust, foot traffic, vapours in a café). Plan for:
- cleaning the filters more often than at home, especially in summer;
- dusting the front panel and louvres;
- checking the condensate drainage: a drip from the ceiling is a warning sign;
- an inspection visit by a refrigeration technician before the hot season.
Detailed steps are in our article Air conditioner maintenance: cleaning filters and troubleshooting.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a cassette air conditioner cost in Morocco?
Carrier cassettes are sold on quotation: the price depends on the capacity, the technology (Inverter or On/Off), availability and installation. Contact us with details of your premises to receive today's price.
Can a cassette be installed without a false ceiling?
No, the cassette is recessed into the false ceiling. Without a false ceiling, a floor-standing unit, a console or a wall-mounted air conditioner is more suitable.
Cassette or ducted for an office?
A cassette suits a single open space; a ducted system distributes air to several rooms through ducts and only leaves grilles visible. For several partitioned offices, a ducted system or several units are often more appropriate.
Inverter or On/Off cassette for a café?
For premises open long hours, Inverter is generally more cost-effective over time. On/Off can suit more occasional use with a lower purchase budget.
Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?
Yes, Brico MIM delivers to every city in Morocco, with cash on delivery.
