Building or renovating a villa in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir or Nador and want cool air in summer without units hanging on the walls? Ducted air conditioning is the most discreet option for villa air conditioning: one indoor unit hidden in the false ceiling distributes air to several rooms through ducts. In this guide, Brico MIM explains how a ducted air conditioner in Morocco works, its strengths and limits compared with several wall splits, when to plan it, how to choose the capacity and how to get a quote for a Carrier ducted unit.

What is a ducted air conditioner?
A ducted air conditioner is a split system, meaning an indoor unit + outdoor unit, whose indoor unit is not mounted on a wall: it sits in the false ceiling, usually above a corridor, a dressing room or a technical space. Conditioned air is sent through a network of ducts to supply grilles in each room, then drawn back through a return grille to the unit.
The result: in the living room and bedrooms, all you see are discreet grilles built into the ceiling. The outdoor unit is installed on the terrace, the roof or in a service courtyard, just like a standard wall-mounted air conditioner.
The parts of a ducted installation
- The ducted indoor unit, in the false ceiling, reachable through an access hatch;
- The outdoor unit, which houses the compressor;
- The refrigerant line and the connecting cable between the two units;
- The plenum and ducts that carry air to each room;
- The supply grilles and the return grille;
- The condensate drain (water produced by cooling) and the control.
Ducted air conditioning or several wall splits: pros and cons
Advantages of a ducted system
- Looks: no visible unit, only grilles. It is the preferred choice for a villa, a renovated riad or a high-end apartment with careful interior design.
- One outdoor unit per system, instead of a row of units on the facade.
- Even air distribution: air is spread through several outlets, with no cold draught aimed at the occupants.
- Acoustic comfort: because the indoor unit sits outside the living spaces, the noise heard in bedrooms is generally lower.
Drawbacks to be aware of
- A false ceiling is essential, with enough height for the unit and the ducts.
- A heavier installation: ducts, grilles, plenum and labour add to the price of the unit.
- Limited room-by-room control: one ducted unit treats all connected rooms together. Zone control requires a more elaborate installation, to be discussed with your installer.
- A breakdown affects every room connected to the same unit.
- Hard to add afterwards in a finished house.
| Criterion | Ducted | Several wall splits | Cassette |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you see in the room | Only grilles | One unit per room | A panel in the ceiling |
| False ceiling | Required | Not needed | Required |
| Outdoor units | One per system | One per split (mono-split) | One per system |
| Room-by-room control | Global (zoning possible depending on installation) | Independent | Single zone |
| When to do the work | Before finishing works | Possible afterwards | Before finishing works |
| Typical use | Villa, duplex, several rooms | Renovation, controlled budget | Large living room, office, shop |
When should you plan ducted air conditioning in a villa?
The right time is before the finishing works. A ducted system is designed at the plan stage, together with the electrical work and the false ceiling:
- New build: the ideal case. The architect can reserve the unit location, the false-ceiling height and the duct routes.
- Major renovation: possible if you are redoing the ceilings (plaster, staff or boards).
- Finished house: often complicated. Wall splits or console units are then easier to install.
On site, you need to plan:
- a false ceiling high enough above the corridor or room that will house the unit;
- an access hatch for maintenance and repairs;
- the position of the supply grilles and return grille in each room;
- the slope of the condensate drain;
- a ventilated, accessible spot for the outdoor unit;
- a dedicated electrical circuit protected at the panel (see our electrical panel guide).
Brico MIM tip: contact us before the false ceilings are closed. With the villa plans, we can guide you on the capacity and number of units to plan, so your plasterer leaves the right height and puts the access hatch in the right place.
Which ducted air conditioner capacity should you choose?
Air conditioner capacity is expressed in BTU. With a ducted system you don't size room by room as with wall splits: the unit must cover all the rooms connected to it. Sizing depends on:
- the total floor area and volume of the rooms served, so the ceiling height too;
- the insulation of walls and roof, especially on the top floor;
- sun exposure and glazed area;
- your city's climate: summer in Marrakech or Fes is nothing like summer in Tangier or Agadir;
- the number of occupants and how the rooms are used;
- the length and layout of the duct network.
For capacity guidelines by area, see our guide Air conditioner in Morocco: which BTU capacity (wall, ducted, cassette). In a large villa, it is common to plan several ducted units (for example one for the living area and one for the bedrooms, or one per floor) rather than a single very large unit: control is finer and one breakdown does not stop the whole house. An undersized unit will run without ever reaching the set temperature, an oversized one will cost more for nothing: the calculation deserves to be done properly.
Inverter or On/Off, and R32 refrigerant
The Carrier ducted units offered by Brico MIM come in two technologies:
- Inverter: the compressor varies its speed instead of constantly stopping and restarting. Temperature is more stable, noise is steadier and consumption is lower than an On/Off unit of the same capacity. It is the logical choice for a villa lived in all year or air conditioning that runs long hours in summer.
- On/Off: the compressor runs at full power until the set point, then stops. A simple, proven mechanism, usually cheaper to buy, but the temperature fluctuates a bit more.
The Carrier Ducted Inverter R32 range uses R32, a more recent refrigerant with a lower climate impact than the older R410A. R32 is mildly flammable, which means installation rules that professionals know well: charging, commissioning and any work on the refrigerant circuit must be done by an equipped refrigeration technician, never as DIY.
Carrier ducted air conditioners available at Brico MIM
Brico MIM offers several Carrier ducted ranges, all mono-split (one indoor unit + one outdoor unit). Since the price depends on configuration and availability, they are sold on quote.

The full range is in our air conditioners collection.
Maintaining ducted air conditioning
A well-maintained ducted system stays efficient and healthy for longer. The basics:
- clean the return-air filter regularly, and more often in summer or if the house is dusty;
- dust the supply grilles and the return grille;
- check the condensate drain: a water leak from the ceiling is often a sign of a blocked drain;
- keep the outdoor unit clear (leaves, sand, objects placed in front of it);
- have a refrigeration technician inspect the system, ideally before the hot season.
This is where the access hatch planned during construction pays off. For detailed steps and common faults, read our article Air conditioner maintenance: cleaning filters and fixing faults.
Ducted air conditioning price in Morocco: how to get a quote

Frequently asked questions
How much does a ducted air conditioner cost in Morocco?
Carrier ducted units are sold on quote: the price depends on capacity, range and installation (ducts, grilles, labour). Send us your plans and the number of rooms on WhatsApp to get the current price.
Can a ducted unit be installed in a finished house?
It is rarely simple, because you need a false ceiling to hide the unit and ducts. If you are not redoing the ceilings, wall splits or console units are usually a better fit.
Can a single ducted unit cool a whole villa?
A ducted unit cools several rooms at once, but for a large villa it is common to plan several units (by zone or by floor) for better temperature control and to avoid relying on a single appliance.
Is installation included?
The unit price does not include installation. Installing a ducted system is a job for a refrigeration technician: we can quote installation and commissioning, or deliver the unit alone if you already have an installer.
Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?
Yes, Brico MIM delivers to every city in Morocco, with cash on delivery.
