Opening your gate without hunting for the remote, letting a relative in from a distance or controlling your garage door from anywhere: that is exactly what a GSM gate opener does. In Morocco, this simple solution turns your smartphone into a phone-controlled gate remote: one free call is enough. In this guide, Brico MIM explains how the RTU5024 module works, how to check compatibility with your gate motor, what to plan for installation and the price of a GSM gate opener in Morocco.

How does a GSM gate opener work?
A GSM gate opener is a small electronic box that works with a SIM card, just like a phone. It connects to the motor of your gate, garage door or barrier, on the input intended for a push button. The principle is very simple:
- You call the number of the SIM card inserted in the module.
- The module recognises your number among the authorised numbers.
- It rejects the call — so the call is not charged — and then activates its relay.
- The relay sends the opening pulse to the motor, exactly as if you pressed a button.
The module can also be controlled by SMS from your phone. Authorised numbers and settings are configured by following the instructions supplied with the device.
The RTU5024 GSM gate opener at a glance
The MYSI RTU5024 GSM gate opener (upgraded version) we offer covers the essentials:
- Opening by free call or control by SMS;
- 1 dry-contact NC/NO relay, 3 A / 240 VAC;
- Wide-range power supply from 9 to 36 V DC (a 12 V or 24 V supply works), with an average consumption of 25 mA at 12 V (50 mA maximum);
- Quad-band GSM network 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, 3 V SIM card (not included);
- Antenna with SMA connector, operating range from -20 to +60 °C;
- Supplied with the module, one antenna and two terminal blocks.
Why control your gate with your phone?
- No more lost remotes or flat batteries: each authorised person uses their own phone, which they always carry.
- Remote opening: a relative, a worker or a delivery driver arrives before you? You can open for them from work or from another city, as long as your phone and the module have network coverage.
- Simple access management: you add or remove an authorised number instead of collecting or reprogramming remotes.
- No Wi-Fi or Internet needed: ideal for a farm, a warehouse, a plot of land or a second home without an Internet box.
- A basic phone is enough: just a call, no app to install.
For a home that is often empty, the GSM gate opener works well alongside the other remote monitoring equipment described in our guide protecting an empty house or second home remotely.
GSM, Wi-Fi or radio remote: which to choose?
GSM is not the only way to control a gate remotely. Here is how it compares with a Wi-Fi relay and the original radio remote:
| Criterion | GSM gate opener (RTU5024) | Wi-Fi relay (e.g. Shelly 1 Gen4) | Original radio remote |
|---|---|---|---|
| Control | Free call or SMS | App, voice assistants | Remote button |
| What you need on site | GSM coverage + SIM card | Wi-Fi reaching the gate | Nothing else |
| Range | Anywhere with network coverage | Remote via the Internet | Limited to the gate area |
| Running cost | SIM card to keep active | Existing Internet box | Batteries |
| Best for | Villa, farm, warehouse, site without Internet | Home already connected and automated | Everyday use close to the gate |
The Shelly 1 Gen4 also has a dry-contact output and can control a gate, provided the Wi-Fi (or Zigbee) signal properly reaches the motor control box. To learn more about these modules, read our article on Shelly smart modules. If your gate is far from the house or you have no Internet box, GSM remains the most direct solution.
Brico MIM tip: a GSM gate opener does not replace your remotes, it adds to them. Keep at least one original remote as a backup, and check GSM reception at the exact spot where the box will be installed before fitting it (a phone placed in the same spot gives a good idea of the signal).
Is it compatible with my gate or garage?
The RTU5024 works with motors that have a dry-contact push-button input. This is the case for many swing and sliding gate motors, garage doors and barriers. Before ordering, check these points:
- Push-button input on the motor control board (shown in your motor's manual).
- Available power supply: the module accepts 9 to 36 V DC. A 12 V or 24 V DC output on the control board or a small suitable power adapter will do.
- Good GSM reception at the planned location; the supplied antenna can be positioned in the best spot.
- Sheltered location: install the module inside the motor control box or in an enclosure protected from rain and direct sunlight.
If in doubt, send the brand and model of your motor to Brico MIM support on WhatsApp: we will tell you whether the module is suitable.
Installation: leave the wiring to a professional
The connection is made inside the motor control box and involves the electrical supply. All work must be done with the power off, and the wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician or gate installer. Never work on a 230 V installation yourself.
Main installation steps
- Switch off the power to the motor.
- Mount the module in a sheltered spot, in or near the control box.
- Connect the 12 V or 24 V DC power supply.
- Connect the module's relay to the motor's push-button input.
- Fit the antenna and insert the SIM card.
- Configure the authorised numbers according to the instructions, then test the opening.
Preparing the SIM card
- Use a 3 V SIM card from a Moroccan operator (not included).
- Follow the instructions in the manual regarding the SIM card and its PIN code.
- Write down the card's number: this is the number you will call to open the gate.
- Top it up regularly so that it stays active, according to your operator's terms.
Important safety point: opening a gate remotely when you cannot see it requires its safety devices (photocells, obstacle detection) to work properly. Have them checked by your installer during installation.
Another use: controlling a water pump remotely
The RTU5024 is also a GSM pump controller: its relay can switch on a pump remotely, which is handy for irrigation or a distant well, without having to travel. Its contact is rated 3 A / 240 VAC: depending on the pump's power, the electrician will connect it to the pump's control circuit (for example via a contactor). To choose your pump, see our guide which pump to choose and our pumps collection.

Frequently asked questions
Is the call to open the gate charged?
No. The module recognises your number, rejects the call and then activates the relay: the call is not charged.
Is the SIM card included?
No. You need a 3 V SIM card from a Moroccan operator, kept active by topping it up regularly.
Can I install the GSM gate opener myself?
The connection to the motor and to the power supply must be made with the power off by a qualified electrician or installer. You can then manage the authorised numbers yourself according to the instructions.
Does it work with a garage door or a barrier?
Yes, as long as the motor has a dry-contact push-button input. If in doubt, send us your motor's reference on WhatsApp.
Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?
Yes, Brico MIM delivers to every city in Morocco, with cash on delivery.
