Good LED lighting transforms a home: a warmer living room, a kitchen where you can clearly see what you are cutting, a restful bedroom, a practical bathroom. Yet many homes in Morocco make do with a single LED ceiling light in the middle of each room. In this guide, Brico MIM explains room by room how to combine LED spotlights, magnetic track, LED strip and indoor light fittings to get the LED lighting of your home in Morocco right, in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fez, Nador or elsewhere.

The 3 layers of good indoor lighting
Lighting professionals rarely think in terms of a single light point. They layer three “layers”:
- General lighting: it lights the whole room evenly (LED ceiling light, panel, linear lamps on a track).
- Task lighting: it lights a specific work area (worktop, mirror, desk, reading in bed).
- Ambient or accent lighting: it highlights a wall, a niche or a shelf, or creates soft indirect light (LED strip in a profile, adjustable spotlight).
With LED, these three layers use little power: you can add more light sources without blowing up your bill, as long as you choose the right products.
Lumens, colour temperature, CRI: the key benchmarks
Lumens rather than watts
With LED, watts indicate consumption, not the amount of light. It is lumens (lm) that measure luminous flux. Always compare the lumens of two products with the same wattage.
Colour temperature
Expressed in kelvins (K), it gives the shade of the light: warm white (around 3000K), neutral white (around 4000K) or cool white (6000K and above). As a general rule: warm for relaxing, neutral for working. To find out more, read our guide 3000K, 4000K or 6000K: which light should you choose?
CRI (colour rendering index)
It indicates how faithfully colours appear under the light. A high CRI (80 and above, ideally 90 for make-up or cooking) makes colours look more natural.
Brico MIM tip: keep the same colour temperature within a room. Mixing 3000K and 6000K on the ceiling gives an inconsistent result. “3-colour” magnetic lamps make it easy to harmonise the whole room and change the ambience later.
Living room: ambience and flexibility
The Moroccan living room is used for everything: receiving guests, watching TV, sharing a family meal. The lighting therefore needs to adapt.
- General lighting: an LED ceiling light or, more modern, a magnetic track on the ceiling with linear lamps for even light, for example the 24W 3-colour linear magnetic lamp (from 210 DH).
- Accent: adjustable spotlights to light a painting or a TV unit, such as the 6W 3-colour magnetic spotlight (from 200 DH), or the Guideway 10W lamp with small aligned lenses, ideal for a shelf or display cabinet (from 255 DH).
- Ambience: an LED strip in a profile on the ceiling (false ceiling, light cove) for soft indirect light in the evening.
The big advantage of magnetic track: the lamps clip on, move or come off without tools. You change the layout whenever you rearrange the living room. The track continues around the room with the L 90° corner, module 20. Our complete guide to magnetic track lighting covers installation in detail.
Kitchen: light that works
In the kitchen, the classic mistake is a single ceiling light behind you: your own shadow falls on the worktop. The solution is to combine:
- Even general lighting, in neutral white (around 4000K), for example linear lamps on a track such as the 18W linear lamp with diffuser (from 320 DH).
- Under-cabinet lighting beneath the wall units with an LED strip fitted in a profile: this is the most useful light for cooking. The PROFILIGHT 10 × 10 mm surface profile (from 70 DH) attaches directly under the cabinet; the matt black 17 × 7 mm recessed profile (from 105 DH) fits into a groove for an invisible finish.
- An accent point above an island or dining table.
The profiles come in 3 m bars to cut to size; the LED strip is sold separately. To choose the right model (surface, recessed or corner), see our guide to aluminium LED profiles.
Bedroom: soft, practical light
The bedroom is a place to rest: go for warm white (around 3000K) and avoid lights that are too strong and cold in the evening.
- Moderate general lighting: LED ceiling light or a few spotlights.
- Reading: a bedside lamp or an adjustable wall light on each side of the bed.
- Walk-in wardrobe and cupboards: an LED strip in a profile, very practical for seeing your clothes. The PROFILIGHT 15.5 × 15.5 mm corner profile (from 130 DH) attaches in a 90° corner, ideal inside a wardrobe.
- Headboard: indirect light behind the headboard creates a hotel-style ambience.
Bathroom: safety first
The bathroom combines water and electricity: it is the room where you need to be most careful.
- Choose light fittings suitable for damp rooms, with a sufficient ingress protection (IP) rating for their location: the closer to the shower or bath, the higher the requirement.
- Light the face from the front at mirror level, rather than from above the head, to avoid shadows. Neutral white and a good CRI help for shaving or make-up.
- Protect the circuit with a 30 mA residual current device and have the installation carried out by a qualified electrician.
Always check on the product page that the light fitting is designed for a damp room. If in doubt, ask us for advice on WhatsApp before buying.
Room-by-room summary table
| Room | Recommended temperature | General lighting | Task / ambience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Warm to neutral white | Magnetic track + linear lamps, LED ceiling light | Adjustable spotlights, Guideway, LED strip in a cove |
| Kitchen | Neutral white (≈ 4000K) | Linear lamps with diffuser | LED strip in a profile under wall units |
| Bedroom | Warm white (≈ 3000K) | LED ceiling light or spotlights, moderate output | Reading lights, corner profile in the wardrobe |
| Bathroom | Neutral white | Light fitting suitable for damp rooms | Front lighting at the mirror |
| Hallway / entrance | Warm to neutral white | Linear lamps or aligned spotlights | LED strip along the skirting or a staircase |
Brico MIM tip: for a magnetic track, add up the wattage of all your lamps and stay below the transformer's rating. The 200W transformer MNG-TF-48V-200W (from 250 DH) can, for example, power a living room with several linear lamps and spotlights. The base of the system: the 3 m black aluminium track, module 20 (from 380 DH).
Frequently asked questions
Which LED light should I choose for a living room?
Warm to neutral white, with several sources: even general lighting (ceiling light or magnetic track with linear lamps) and spotlights or an LED strip for ambience. 3-colour magnetic lamps let you adjust the shade.
Is magnetic track suitable for a home or only for shops?
It works very well in a living room, kitchen, hallway or office. Its strength: you can move and add lamps without tools as your layout changes.
Do I need an electrician to install LED lighting?
Sticking a low-voltage LED strip into a profile is within reach of a careful DIYer. However, any connection to the 220 V mains (transformer, ceiling light, bathroom) must be done with the power off and, ideally, by a qualified electrician.
Is the LED strip supplied with the profiles?
No, PROFILIGHT profiles are sold in 3 m bars to cut to size; the LED strip is sold separately.
Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?
