4G solar camera: monitor land, a farm or a construction site without electricity or Wi-Fi

Caméra solaire 4G Dahua Apollo BP3EW-4G avec panneau solaire - Brico MIM Maroc

Farmland far from the village, a farm with no electricity meter, a construction site where equipment stays overnight, a well or a holiday home closed part of the year: these places are often the most exposed to theft, and they are exactly where a standard camera cannot be installed. The 4G solar camera solves the problem: a solar panel for power, a SIM card for the connection, and you watch everything from your phone. Here is how a 4G solar camera in Morocco works, how to install it properly for farm surveillance or land monitoring, and above all what its real limits are before you buy a camera without Wi-Fi.

How does a 4G solar camera work?

The principle comes down to three elements:

  • The solar panel produces electricity during the day and charges the battery.
  • The battery (10,000 mAh on the Dahua and Imou models) powers the camera day and night.
  • The 4G SIM card sends alerts and the live image to the app on your phone, without an internet box.

To run on battery, these cameras do not film like a mains-powered camera. Recent models use AOV mode (“Always On Video”): the camera records continuously in time-lapse at very low power, then switches to normal video as soon as a detection is triggered. AI detection tells people and vehicles apart, so you are not woken up by every dog or moving branch.

Placing the camera and the solar panel correctly

Placement makes the difference between a camera that runs all year and one that switches off after two nights.

  • Full sun, no shade: face the panel south, away from trees, walls or roofs that cast shade at certain times. Even partial shade can sharply reduce charging.
  • Check the 4G signal on site: before drilling, look at the 4G bars on your phone with the same operator, exactly where the camera will go. A few metres of height can improve the signal.
  • High up and firmly fixed: on a wall, a pole or a mast, out of arm's reach, to limit theft and tampering. Tighten the fixings well: wind is strong on open land.
  • Frame what matters: the gate, the land entrance, the well, the equipment store, livestock. A motorised camera then lets you save positions and turn it remotely.
  • Clean the panel: dust and sand reduce output. A wipe with a damp cloth from time to time is enough.

Brico MIM tip: at night, the camera sees better and uses less power if the area is already lit. A solar floodlight or bollard near the entrance helps a lot: explore the options in our outdoor lighting guide and the outdoor lighting collection.

Which SIM card and how much data?

A Moroccan data SIM card (Maroc Telecom, Orange or inwi) with an internet plan is enough. The Dahua and Imou cameras support 4G bands FDD B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 and TDD B38/B40/B41. A few practical rules:

  • Choose the operator with the best signal at the camera's exact location, not the one that works best at your home.
  • Check the manual to see whether you need to disable the SIM card's PIN code before inserting it (this is often the case).
  • Data usage depends mainly on how long you watch live and on cloud uploads. Recording to the microSD card does not use any data.
  • Remember to top up the plan before it expires: without data, no more alerts on your phone.

Where are the videos stored?

On a microSD card inside the camera: up to 512 GB on the Dahua Apollo and the Imou models, up to 128 GB on the V380 Pro. The card is generally not included, so add it to your order. Cloud storage (Imou, V380) is an option: useful because if someone rips off the camera, the card goes with it. In any case, notifications reach your phone as soon as something is detected, giving you time to react or call someone on site.

The limits you should know (let's be honest)

A 4G solar camera is very practical, but it is not a wired camera. Better to know this before buying:

  • At night, nothing recharges: the battery does the work. Colour night vision, the floodlight, the siren, the motor and above all live viewing drain the battery faster. Dahua's figures speak for themselves: 1.22 W in performance mode versus 0.08 W in AOV mode for the Apollo.
  • Cloudy days: several overcast days in a row, in winter or in the north, reduce charging. The battery takes over, but it can eventually run flat. Switch to an economy mode (the Apollo has an ultra-economy mode) and limit live viewing.
  • Network coverage: with no 4G signal at the chosen spot, there is no remote viewing and no alerts. These cameras are specified for 4G LTE; in a dead zone, they do not replace a wired link or a long-range Wi-Fi bridge from a connected building.
  • A less fluid image: up to 15 frames per second and 3 to 5 MP is plenty to see who comes in, less so to read a number plate far away.
  • It is not a guard: the camera detects, records and alerts, but it does not physically stop a theft. Combine it with a solid fence, a good padlock and, if possible, someone on site.

Which model should you choose for your land?

  • Small budget, first camera: the V380 Pro dual lens at 950 DH, with 4G, Wi-Fi and an RJ45 port.
  • Farm or well with very dark nights: the Dahua Apollo at 1,350 DH, supplied with its 8 W panel, colour image at night up to 20 m.
  • Construction site, equipment depot: the Imou AOV PT at 1,500 DH, in 5 MP, with siren and floodlight to scare off intruders.
  • Large plot, two zones to watch: the Imou AOV Dual at 1,900 DH keeps an overview while the second lens follows movement. Ask us on WhatsApp whether the version in stock includes the solar panel.

If the site has electricity (villa, shop, warehouse in town), a wired installation remains more reliable and cheaper per camera: compare all the options in our guide security cameras in Morocco: how to choose and at what price.

Frequently asked questions

Does a solar camera work at night?

Yes. The panel charges the battery during the day and the battery powers the camera at night. Depending on the model, the night image is infrared (black and white) or in colour thanks to built-in lighting.

Do I need an internet connection or Wi-Fi?

No, the 4G SIM card is enough. The Imou models and the V380 Pro can also use Wi-Fi if a network is in range.

Do I need a subscription?

You only need an internet plan on the SIM card. Recording to microSD is free; cloud storage is a paid option.

How long does the battery last without sun?

It depends on the mode selected, the number of detections and how long you watch live. In AOV or economy mode, consumption is very low; with heavy use, the battery drains much faster. We prefer not to quote a precise number of days.

Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?

Yes, Brico MIM delivers to every city in Morocco, with cash on delivery.
