In Morocco, tiles and marble are everywhere: living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, terraces, staircases. A successful tiling job often comes down to details: even joints, clean cuts and well-finished corners. Whether you are a homeowner or a maâlem, here are the tools and finishing accessories that make the difference.

1. Marking out and levelling: the laser level
Tiles that drift or lines that are not straight are noticed immediately. A self-levelling laser level projects perfectly horizontal and vertical lines onto walls and floors: ideal for wall tiles and large rooms. Example: Total 30 m self-levelling laser level, mounted on a 1.20 m aluminium tripod.
2. Cutting tiles and marble cleanly
For straight cuts, angled cuts and cut-outs around pipes, an electric disc cutting machine saves a lot of time and avoids breakage. Example: Total 1400 W tile and marble cutter.
Safety: wear goggles, gloves and a dust mask. When dry-cutting marble and stone, work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
3. Tile spacers: even joints
Tile spacers are placed between the tiles to keep the same gap everywhere. The result: straight, even joints.
- 2 mm tile spacers: fine joints, for wall tiles and rectified tiles.
- 3 mm tile spacers: standard joints for floor tiles.
Tip: follow the joint width recommended by the tile manufacturer, and allow for wider joints outdoors, where temperature variations are significant.
4. Tile trim: sharp, protected corners
Tile trim (or corner profiles) is fitted on external corners, wall tile edges and stair nosings. It hides the edge of the tile, protects corners from knocks and gives a clean finish. Discover our Migo, King and Norili tile trim.
5. The steps of a good tiling job
- Prepare the surface: clean, dry, flat and solid.
- Plan the layout: dry-lay the tiles to plan the cuts and start in the right place (often in the centre of the room or facing the entrance).
- Mark the reference lines with the laser.
- Apply adhesive to the surface and, for large formats, to the back of the tile too (back-buttering).
- Lay the tiles, placing the spacers and checking the level regularly.
- Finish with tile trim on the corners.
- Grout the joints after the drying time indicated on the adhesive.
