What size of safe should you choose?
Make a list of what you want to store in it, then add some margin: you always end up putting more in it than planned.

Note: the dimensions listed are generally the external dimensions. The inside is smaller because of the wall thickness.
Code, key or fingerprint?
- Electronic code lock: no key to hide, and the code can be changed. This is the most common choice.
- Fingerprint: quick opening, and only registered people have access. Example: Ferri smart fingerprint safe.
- Emergency key: useful if the batteries run out. Never keep it next to the safe!
Brico MIM tip: avoid obvious codes (date of birth, 1234, 0000) and replace the safe's batteries at least once a year, before they run completely flat.
Where and how to install your safe?
- Always anchor it to the wall or floor with suitable wall plugs (concrete preferably). A small safe that is not fixed can be carried away whole.
- Hide it: at the back of a cupboard, in a walk-in wardrobe, under a piece of furniture. Avoid the master bedroom, it is the first place to be searched.
- Avoid humidity to protect documents and electronics.
- Leave space in front of the safe door so it can open fully.
