You work all day and want to check that your baby is sleeping well with the nanny, that your elderly mother is fine at home, or what your cat gets up to when you are away? An indoor Wi-Fi camera is the simplest solution: it plugs into a socket, connects to your router and shows you the room live on your phone, wherever you are. In this guide, we look at how to choose a home Wi-Fi camera in Morocco, use it as a baby camera, to look after elderly parents or your pets, where to place it, how to protect your privacy and what price for an indoor camera to expect.
Contents
1. Why choose an indoor Wi-Fi camera?
Unlike a CCTV kit with a recorder, an indoor Wi-Fi camera needs no video cable and no installer: a power socket and your Wi-Fi connection are enough. It is ideal for:
- Watching your baby during naps, from the living room or from work.
- Looking after an elderly parent who lives alone or spends the day alone, and talking to them remotely.
- Keeping an eye on your pets (cat, dog, birds) when the house is empty.
- Checking the entrance or living room of an apartment, in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech or elsewhere.
It is easy to move: you can put it in the baby's room at night, then in the living room during the day.
2. The features that really matter
All Wi-Fi cameras look alike in photos. Here is what to check, using the example of the TP-Link Tapo C220 motorised indoor Wi-Fi camera (480 DH):
- A sharp image: the Tapo C220 films in 2K QHD (2560 × 1440), more detailed than Full HD for recognising a face or reading a detail.
- Motorised rotation: its head pans 340° and tilts 69°, covering 360° horizontally. A single camera can see the whole room, and it can automatically follow movement.
- Night vision: infrared up to 9 m, essential for a child's room in the dark.
- Smart alerts: its AI recognises people, pets, vehicles and baby crying, and sends you a notification. You are not disturbed by every change in light.
- Two-way audio: microphone and speaker with noise reduction to reassure a child, talk to a parent or call your dog.
- Storage: microSD card up to 512 GB (not included) or Tapo Care cloud by subscription.
- Compatibility: Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, as well as RTSP and ONVIF for advanced users.
3. Baby, elderly parents, pets: settings and placement
| Use | Where to place the camera | Useful settings | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby | High up (shelf, wardrobe or ceiling), looking down on the bed | Cry detection, night vision, audio to reassure | Cable or camera within the child's reach |
| Elderly parents | Living area (living room, hallway, kitchen) | Person detection, two-way audio, motion tracking | Bedroom or bathroom without their consent |
| Pets | Area where they spend the day (bowl, basket) | Pet detection, audio to call them | Siren triggered by pet detection (needless stress) |
Baby camera: safety first
Place the camera high up, out of the child's reach, and run the power cable away from the bed (fixed to the wall or hidden behind furniture). A cable hanging near a cot is a hazard. The Tapo C220 can be placed on furniture or mounted on the ceiling, and its adapter has a 3 m cable that gives you some slack. Avoid pointing it at a window: at night, the infrared reflects off the glass and the image turns white.
Elderly parents: reassure without patronising
Talk it over with them before installing and choose the location together. A camera in the living room or hallway is often enough to see that they are moving around normally. The audio function lets you call them for a medication reminder or simply to chat. A camera does not replace someone being there or medical follow-up: it is a complement for the family.
Pets: see and reassure
Place the camera where the animal spends its day. Pet detection sends you an alert when it moves, and auto-tracking lets you follow it around the room. Keep the siren for intruders, not for your dog.
Brico MIM tip: if a nanny or home help works in your home, tell her clearly that there is a camera. It is more honest, it avoids conflict and the relationship of trust stays intact.
4. Wi-Fi, storage and installation
Wi-Fi that reaches the camera properly
The Tapo C220 connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If the camera is far from the router (back bedroom, upstairs), the image may stutter. Test the signal with your phone at the planned spot. A more powerful router such as the HUAWEI WiFi AX3 (Wi-Fi 6) (690 DH) helps cover the whole house. Our tips are in the article Weak Wi-Fi at home: router, Wi-Fi bridge and camera.
microSD card or cloud?
With a microSD card, videos stay in the camera, with no subscription. The Tapo Care cloud (paid) keeps videos online, useful if the camera is stolen or unplugged. For family use, a microSD card is enough in most cases.
Installation in 10 minutes
- Install the Tapo app and create your account.
- Plug in the camera and follow the steps to connect it to your Wi-Fi.
- Insert the microSD card and turn on recording.
- Set up the alerts (person, pet, baby crying) and the detection zones.
- Share access with your spouse or siblings if needed, each with their own account.
5. Protecting your privacy: our advice
A camera in the home films your private life: it must be well protected.
- A strong, unique password for your Tapo account, different from the one for your email or Facebook.
- Turn on two-step verification if the app offers it.
- Secure your Wi-Fi: change the router's default password and use WPA2 encryption. The Tapo C220 encrypts its streams (128-bit AES, SSL/TLS).
- Update the app and the camera when an update is offered.
- Do not share your login: use the sharing feature to give a relative access.
- Choose the location carefully: avoid bathrooms and adults' bedrooms, and do not film the neighbours.
- Switch off when you are home: schedule monitoring periods or simply unplug the camera when the whole family is at home.
6. Indoor Wi-Fi camera or another solution?
| Solution | Ideal for | Installation | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indoor Wi-Fi camera (Tapo C220) | Baby, parents, pets, one room | A socket + Wi-Fi | 480 DH |
| Camera kit + XVR recorder | Villa, outdoors, several rooms, shop | Wiring required | Cameras from 230 DH + XVR from 550 DH |
| Solar 4G camera | Plot of land, farm, house without Internet or power | Solar panel + SIM card | From 950 DH |
For outdoors, the Tapo C220 is not suitable (indoor use, from 0 °C to 40 °C): choose a weatherproof camera in our security cameras section. Frequently asked questions
Can a Wi-Fi camera be used as a baby monitor?
Yes, for remote monitoring: the Tapo C220 detects baby crying, sends an alert to your phone, sees in the dark and lets you talk to the child. It needs Wi-Fi and your phone to work.
What is the price of an indoor Wi-Fi camera in Morocco?
At Brico MIM, the Tapo C220 2K motorised indoor Wi-Fi camera costs 480 DH. Also plan for a microSD card if you want to record without a subscription.
Does the camera work without Internet?
To view the camera remotely and receive alerts, you need a Wi-Fi connection linked to the Internet. If your home has no Internet, a 4G camera with a SIM card is more suitable.
Can several people view the camera?
Yes, the app lets you share access with relatives. Each person keeps their own account, which is safer than sharing a password.
Do you deliver everywhere in Morocco?
Yes, Brico MIM delivers to every city in Morocco, with cash on delivery.
